future-always coming, never here.
Futurism, an artistic movement that began in Italy 1909 that violently rejects traditional forms so as to celebrate and incorporate into art-the energy and dynamism of modern technology. Launched by Filippo Marinetti, it had effectively ended by 1918 but was widely influential, particularly in Russia on figures such as Malevich and Mayakovsky.
Relating this to the ever-changing styles of design-does this show how quick design can change within time and technology? We do live in a dynamic world. Nothing stays the same. There is not a single thing that does not change within time. We the design of nature, the uniqueness of such natural designs changes with time.
Design moves with time, we move with time as well as change. In a perspective, futurism seems to be hinting towards this-if people and things change with time and technology so can design. With new technology coming in all the time, there is no doubt how this will affect design and us. Perhaps we were trying to capture time with design against the speed of how fast time passes us.
A friend once asked;
“What is always coming, but never here?”
I replied;
“The future.”
It is true if you think about it deeply. We always talk about what we want to do in the future, what our parents want our future to be like, what to expect of the future and much more. Though have you ever thought about the fact that time passes so ever quickly yet the future we always talk about is never really here?
Hence is this what futurism is trying to express to us? As time passes so quick, designers of all fields just simply want to stop time for us to have a much clearly look and to challenge what the future really holds for us?
