1st world war

design. what is design? design is creating an experience for the consumer, a feeling, a desire. perhaps temptation. during the first world war, design was used widely and mostly in advertising. advertising to recruit soldiers for the war. such posters create a mood in which you would feel guilty if you didn't join. posters that make you feel that you have to join to show patriotism.

last lecture of all, it sums up what design is and what design itself can do. design is somewhat an extremely powerful thing that has an effect on all people in different ways. i guess this is what all the lectures of design history is about. one by one they connect, one by one they give us more knowledge of what design is and can be, and one by one they are increasing our awareness of design itself.

perhaps like the first world war, design is used as a form of communication to send a message across a great distance. design had an effect on everyone, like the first world war. it could make you sad, it could make you happy or it can make you feel emotionless in some cases. guess design is trying to make you look outside the box, rather than inside.
